Choosing Depth in a World Obsessed With Speed

5/24/2026

For ambitious women, slowing down can feel like failure.  We’re conditioned to believe that speed equals momentum.
That faster is better.  That if we’re not moving quickly, we’re falling behind.  So we rush.  We optimize.  We cram meaning into margins and rest into the leftovers.  And somehow, even while achieving more, life starts to feel… thinner.  Less satisfying.  Less connected.  Less like us.

Speed looks impressive.  Fast decisions.  Fast growth.  Fast wins.  But depth?  Depth is quieter.  Depth doesn’t announce itself.  It doesn’t perform well on highlight reels.
And it rarely comes with instant validation.  Depth asks you to:
  • Stay with something longer
  • Feel more instead of bypassing discomfort
  • Build instead of chase
  • Choose quality over urgency

And for women who are capable, driven, and used to excelling, this can feel wildly uncomfortable.  Because slowing down isn’t the absence of ambition.  It’s ambition with intention.

People praise speed, but they rarely talk about how speed disconnects us from ourselves.  We make decisions quickly, but not consciously.  We achieve goals, but don’t feel fulfilled by them.
We move on to the next thing before we’ve even arrived in the present one.  Over time, this creates a strange contradiction:  Outward success.  Inner numbness.  Not because you’re ungrateful.  Not because you’re doing it wrong.  But because depth requires space and speed consumes that space.
Ok, it's time for an experiment!  I call this one:  The Choose One Thing to Do More Slowly Experiment.

This isn’t about adopting a “slow life” aesthetic or abandoning your goals.
It’s about choosing depth on purpose.

Try this:
Pick one area of your life this week and remove urgency from it.
Picture
One conversation you don’t rush.  One decision you let breathe.  One moment you stay present instead of productive.  Notice what changes, not externally, but internally.  Clarity often shows up when we stop sprinting past it.

Let's be clear.  This isn’t about doing less because you can’t handle more.  It’s about doing less better.  With attention.  With alignment.  With self-trust.  Slow living for ambitious women isn’t about shrinking.  It’s about building something that lasts.  A life with roots.  Not just momentum.

In a world that rewards urgency, choosing depth is quietly radical.  It says:
“I don’t need to rush to be worthy.”
“I don’t need constant motion to prove I’m driven.”
“I’m allowed to move at the pace of what actually matters.”

That’s not falling behind.  That’s choosing a life that feels as good on the inside as it looks on paper.

If you’ve been reading this thinking,
“something just feels off in my life, but I can’t fully explain it…”
You’re not alone and you’re not broken.

Most high-achieving women aren’t unhappy because they’re doing life wrong…
They’re unhappy because they’re solving the wrong problem.
