The Permission to Want More (Even When Life Looks Good)

2/22/2026

There’s a flavor of guilt no one warns you about:  The guilt of wanting more… even when your life looks objectively “good.”  You have the house.  The job.  The partner.  Kids, maybe.  People who love you.  From the outside, you look like you’ve made it.  Some people would kill to have what you have.  So why does something still feel… off?

Why do you catch yourself daydreaming about something different, then quickly swat it away?  Why does it feel selfish, or worse, ungrateful to want more?

Let’s talk about that.

It’s easier to talk about wanting more when things are falling apart.
Rock bottom gives you permission to change.  But what about when life looks fine?  When you have enough that it feels wrong to say, “This still isn’t it.”

There’s a secret pressure that sneaks in during those times:  “Don’t complain. You should be grateful. Other people have it worse.”  And while that’s true and gratitude is lovely, it can be weaponized against us.

Wanting more does not mean you’re ungrateful for what you have.  Both can be true.  Gratitude and desire are not opposites.  You can honor where you are and reach for more.  In fact, that’s how growth works.

We were taught early:
  • Be happy with what you’ve got
  • Don’t rock the boat
  • Don’t get too big
  • Don’t be greedy
So we shrink.  We dim our desires.  We silence the part of us that knows there’s more.
What’s heartbreaking is that many women stay here forever.  Adrift in a life that’s “good enough,” quietly mourning the one they didn’t chase.

You don’t have to burn your life down.  You don’t have to blow up everything that’s working.  But you ARE allowed to want a different rhythm.  More joy.  More passion.  More freedom.  More meaning.  More “you.”

Sometimes “more” isn’t about material things at all.  It’s about more alignment. More aliveness. More purpose.

You don’t need a tragic backstory to justify wanting a great life.  You don’t need to prove that you’ve suffered enough to earn your dreams.  Your desire is enough.  If something inside you whispers,  “There’s more for me…” that’s worth listening to.  Not because life right now is bad but because your soul is nudging you toward what’s next.
That whisper is a compass.  Ignoring it doesn’t make it go away; it just gets quieter… until one day you look back and wonder where your spark went.
So here it is.  The permission you’ve been waiting for:
✨ You are allowed to want more.
✨ Even when your life is good.
✨ Especially when your life is good.

Because wanting more isn’t about being dissatisfied.  It’s about being awake.  You get one life.  It’s okay to shape it into one that lights you up.  You don’t need anyone else to validate that desire.  It’s yours.  Honor it.

And with that, it's time for The Experiment!  I call this one The More Mapping Exercise.  This week, you’re going to explore what “more” means to you.

Step 1 — Set a timer for 5 minutes.
Write down the sentence:  “If I gave myself permission to want more, I would want…”  Then finish it again and again.  Don’t filter. Don’t analyze. Don’t worry about logistics or what others may think.  Just let your truth show up.

Step 2 — Circle the ones that make your body react.
You might feel:
  • Excited
  • Nervous
  • Warm
  • Pulled
  • Lit up
Those are breadcrumbs.

Step 3 — Ask for each circled item:
“What is one tiny step I could take toward this?”  Tiny means tiny!  Not “quit my job,” but maybe “spend 20 minutes researching that new role”  or  “ask someone who’s done it how they started.”

Step 4 — Pick ONE tiny step to do this week.
That’s it.  No dramatic life overhaul required.  Just one small act of alignment.

Your desire is not a problem.  It’s information.  It’s pointing toward a more fulfilling version of your life.  One you’re allowed to pursue without apology.  Life doesn’t have to break before you rebuild.  You don’t have to hit rock bottom to grow.  You can choose “more” simply because it’s true for you.

And that… is worth everything.
