When the Call Is Coming from Inside the House (When You’re the One Who Needs to Change)

10/13/2025

It’s so tempting to point the finger.
Your boss is toxic.
Your partner doesn’t get it.
Your schedule is suffocating.
Your to-do list is a monster that never sleeps.

It all feels like too much—and none of it feels like your fault.  And maybe it isn’t. Not completely.

But here’s a truth that’s hard to admit out loud:
Sometimes, the real shift we need… is the one inside us.

Not because you’re the problem.
But because you’re the only part of the equation you actually have control over.

When Ownership Feels Like a Punch in the Gut, I remember the moment this clicked for me.

I had been spinning in stress, blaming everyone and everything for how stuck I felt.

I thought:
If they would just change…
If this would just get easier…
Then I could finally breathe.
But nothing changed.
Not until I did.

And that’s when I realized:
Blame might feel satisfying in the moment—but it’s a trap that keeps us powerless.
Radical ownership isn’t about shame.
It’s about freedom.

It’s looking at your life and saying:
"This might not be all my fault… but it is my responsibility to shift it."

This one’s a tough-love conversation about what it means to take full ownership of your life—without shame, and without excuses.
AND
This Week’s Happiness Experiment is:
The Hard Truth Inventory
Picture
Let's give it a try.....Grab a notebook, your notes app, or anything you’ll actually use. This is about honesty, not perfection.
  1. Ask yourself:
What’s one hard truth I’ve been avoiding?
    – Is it a boundary I need to set?
    – A habit I need to drop?
    – A story I keep telling myself that keeps me stuck?
  2. Write it down.
No filters. No justifications. Just the truth, as raw and real as it comes.
  3. Now ask:
What would taking action look like?
    – What’s one small, doable step you could take this week to start shifting this?
    – It could be having a conversation, changing a routine, or admitting something to yourself you’ve been avoiding.
  4. Bonus:
Set a reminder to check back in 7 days. Did you take action? How did it feel? What changed?

A Final Word

You’re not broken. You’re not behind.

But if something in your life feels off, it’s okay to ask:
What am I doing—or not doing—that’s keeping me here?

It’s a brave thing to ask.
And it might be the exact thing that sets you free.
